Guys, I make this topic to talk about all the possibilities regarding Flame II.
Anyway, what do you think about HTC P6500? I think it will be a great candidate for Flame II. It doesn't have USB Host feature, but with 2x SDHC slot, you can add USB Host SDIO adapter to it and use the other slot for high-speed storage card (like ATP ProMax SDHC 22.5 MB/s). And if you use both slot for storage, you can have up to 64GB storage (once 32GB SDHC available). You can check pdadb.net for detail specs of this powerful pda.
ofcourse if MWg decided to use HTC P6500 as Flame II, they can ask HTC to add 2nd camera for video call and USB OTG feature (built-in feature of Qualcomm 7200 chipset).
Or perhaps you have other suggestions regarding Flame II?

The HTC P6500 is not a VGA device. For me it is of no use.

For me too.

no VGA then its out. I purchased the flame just for the 3.6" VGA screen or else why carry the brick hehe ![]()
Offline
I agree, that's why I bought it - but so far not been able to make screen function - no vga quality video, Mapking/Gamin Q maps don't display propperly etc. Still searching the forum to try and see what I doing wrong! If all that was promised worked as they should Flame would be Great - VGA and 3.5 screen a must! And U1000 like 2 bricks!

Now I know why the people at xda-devs never talk about the P6500. The compact-size lover hates its big size while the brick lover hates its QVGA screen. All make sense to me now ![]()
Alrighty then, what about HP iPAQ 214? I know it doesn't have phone function, but with its killer specs, it will be great if MWg order from them and add the phone + USB Host feature to the spec. Anyone knows the original maker of iPAQ 214?

Guys, I finally found a new device that can take the crown from Xda Flame. Every reason that made us stick to the buggy Xda Flame has been answered. Meet Meizu M8. Cek the specs at:
http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs& … amp;view=1
and here:

PS : Don't get fooled by the pic of the device at pdadb.net, it's not final. The final appearance of the device can be seen o the 2nd link.

Sleek design, but no GPU?
Offline
Well, the question is does the GPU in Flame really make a difference? Does the graphic feature of Qualcomm 7200 chipset on TyTN II make a difference? Can we get any performance gain having the GPU on our PDA? GoForce 6100 already released as a successor to GoForce 5500 for quite sometime but still no game for it. And CorePlayer still not supporting GPU features on current PDAs.
Anyway, if M8 really work fast, can play DVD quality movie at 720x480 30fps (despite lack of GPU) then it's fine with me.

simply put xda flame 2 must have A-GPS, VGA, HSDPA, 3.2MP cam (@ least), WM6/7 already installed, >2GB memory, WiFi which would be working at the full 54mb/s rather than having to hack tools to do it!

I think I will buy it when it will be available, except if it has no removable battery has written in the forum.
Offline
@thierryb
I know it is written on the 1st page of the forum that it will not have removable battery, but if you keep reading the next page, one of the poster said that Meizu show a prototype of the removable battery at CES.
Off-topic a little bit, does this forum has Polling ability? I want to make a poll but can't figure it out.
Until MWg released a WM6 ROM with all the bell and whistle, make mine XFU. Excelsior!

post off-topic in another post please

@NotADuck
I'm sorry if I sounded OT, but from the start I made this topic to talk about the successor for Flame, whether it's Flame II or other product that can fill the shoes. I guess I pick a wrong title for the subject, but since I can't edit it, and I surely don't want to spam the general forum with "one-shot post" of this product and that product, I decided not to start a new topic. So, I'm apologize to any of you who read this topic but find no new info about the upcoming Flame II. Please feel free to post news update regarding Flame II here. As for me, I'm still actively searching for Flame II news too, but I'm also looking for alternative device to replace the Flame just in case Flame II never see the light of day.

What would you like as a title?
Which one could be a XDA Flame successor ?
Offline
@thierryb
I think the right title should be "Xda Flame successor". This way, people who are searching for info regarding Flame II won't get the wrong impression.
For Xda Flame successor, you can choose between HTC P6500, Samsung SGH-i900, Toshiba Portege G910, I-Mate Ultimate 7150, or Meizu M8. None of them have USB Host function except Meizu M8. So I personally choose Meizu M8 MiniOne as Flame successor. Here is the key features of Meizu M8:
-Windows CE 6.0
-USB 2.0 Host/Client (USB OTG 1.2 complicance)
-3.4" 480x720 24bit-color TFT (with better dot pitch than Flame)
-667MHz Samsung S5L8900 CPU
-128MB RAM and 8GB/16GB ROM (there are 2 version)
-Full-size SDHC Slot (you can put a 32GB SDHC Class 6 in there)
-3MP camera with autofocus
-aluminium casing
Unfortunately, it doesn't have built-in GPS. But then again, Xda Flame doesn't have one and we still buy it and love it.
Check the detailed features on pdadb.net. Please note that the specs aren't final,
PS: As we all know, Windows Mobile 7 will be based on WinCE 6.0. When Meizu were asked why they choose WinCE as OS and not WM, they told the press that WinCE are more stable and customizable (hence the Apple iPhone UI on this device).
I wonder whether we can port Windows Mobile OS to a WinCE device since they use the same core.

Regarding the Meizu M8, why do they have to make it look like an iphone? ...that puts me off
it's a shame, 'cause the specs are cool.
Offline
to me the p6500 would be a down grade. it only has qvga and 400mz processor. i looked at it before buying the flame. i opted for the flame, even with wm5 cause of the vga and memory.
Offline
Any Pocket PC I buy needs to have proper buttons (touch screen only is useless) because I am a gamer, the minimum CPU I will accept is 520 MHZ and it has to have VGA. I was excited about the HTC P6500 until I noticed the lack of VGA and only 400 MHZ processor, also it has only 1GB on board compared to the Flames 2GB.

A new type of device is coming out now, with a pull-out screen. That means you have a big screen (in the first model coming out in July it will be 4.5") when you need it, but a small device when you put into your pocket. They start now with grey-scale. Will probably at least 2 years or so before color screens come out, but who knows. a small phone with 5" screen, that would be a worthy successor. everything else is just incremental. And as you can see with HTC, O2, and IMate, things are stuck at 2.8" screens and mostly QVGA. 256 MB ROM. I say, get those out of my face!

And with regards to the Meizu ... a Chinese designed device??? Be preparded to throw it away after 3 months of never ending frustrations! If it ever lasts that long, hehehe.This is the voice of experience speaking. Ask yourself why in China a Chinese branded handset's price must always be at least 50% cheaper than the major foreign brands with the same specs to be able to sell at all? Mind you, the key is Chinese designed, not China made. Most everything is China made, these days. With the notable exception of the very highend phones like the flame, those still mostly come from Taiwan.

@Hans
I understand your pessimistic. I too a little bit pesimist regarding Meizu since it is Chinese designed. But Meizu have a rather good history. Their multimedia player device is quite successful and have very good quality, far surpass other chinese designed multimedia player. so i really hope they will have a success with M8.
btw, I think one of the reason Meizu M8 price will have a much lower price compared to iPhone is because they didn't have big budget for marketing campaign. I've been told that the price we paid for a product, 75% of it is for covering cost of marketing campaign, advertisment, etc for that product.

This is really the really successor for O2 Flame. Give up the stupid nvidia chip and MEGA POWER HUNGRY 2GB ROM. The only i really hate giving up is the USB to go :-(
In the end give me a GIANT (Sony) support, WVGA, 3MP Camera, Keyboard, GPS and still a 400MB ROM.
Most amazing thing i realize is it used microSD and not the stupid Sony M2 card.

It is a total of 400MB for RAM + ROM! Just the measly standard complement of 128+256, which is not even 400 -- talk about truth in advertising. I had a lot of bad experiences with Sony support (phones and computers), so better be careful! Remember the rootkits? And the $50 charge for "crapware removal" on their computers? And a 3.0" screen is a far cry from the 3.6 we have now. Back to the drawing board! Maybe the Iphone if Apple ever "unchains" it, to real unlock its full functionality and you can buy an officially unlocked version. My guess is we will be in for a long wait. No matter which brand, but in my next phone I will be looking for at least 16GB ROM, we may be up to 64GB at a decent price by the time a worthy successor arrives. Why call it a "successor" if you settle for less? Once the WM6 problems are all ironed out we may have the successor on our hands right now! A WM6 flame.
