Re: Xda Flame successor

yes it has some nice specs otherwise like the orientations sensors and hopefully working display drivers at last ^^'
I think I will soon revert to a pda + photophone, or even no phone and just SIP for calling. HP 210 (or 211, 214 depending on the countries) looks like a nice device..

Working video drivers?? To dream the impossible dream....  lol --- I don't want to carry 2 devices around. Besides that point the HP 210 has a great screen, but is really slow. I will be waiting for the rollout screens. My point just was that at least I see some new developments. If the HTC Diamond had a 3.6 - 4" screen and a microSDHC slot I would be very tempted. That would be iPhone 3 with no need for jailbreaking.

Another announcement for a Flame II?? Well let's hope against hope. They are having trouble getting their ZincII and other announced devices out.

Re: Xda Flame successor

when it launch, can we use the wm version for flame I? it will be great!!!

"......MWg's roadmap includes a slimmer successor to the Atom due in Q3 2008, plus a device aimed specifically at the enterprise market due in Q4. This will be called Flame II, and is likely to include support for HSDPA up to 7.2Mbit/s, 128MB memory, plus a large 3.5in screen that will have VGA (640 x 480) or SVGA (800 x 600) resolution.

Butterworth said the higher resolution allowed for greater clarity where diagrams are embedded in documents, but such screens were costly. "We have yet to decide if it is worth it," he said.

The Flame II is expected to cost about £350 when it ships."

I remember I read some reviews, saying the old 4700 was still faster. I may be wrong. No, I didn't try it. Another problem with PDAs only (without phone function) is that they don't try to optimize battery life at all, I guess they don't believe someone will be carrying it around all day like a phone.

Re: Xda Flame successor

This one is said to last 2 to 3 days with normal usage !
I think you had a bad experience with one or two pda, coz they use the same cpu and os (just without the phone part) which are the main sources of power management ?

bad experiences with the HP 2750's battery. Still have it, use it as a skype phone around the home.

Re: Xda Flame successor

This samsung looks hot. From what we know, it's only missing usb host and vga display.
I fear 400x240 may be incompatible with many software.... Any experienced user with non-conventional displays ?

Re: Xda Flame successor

Wouldn't call the Samsung the Flame's successor.  The Samsung has a WQVGA screen resolution and is roughly the size of a device with a 4:3 ratio 2.8" screen.

I don't understand... it's 3,5" and 16:10 ratio :-/

Re: Xda Flame successor

It may be 3.5" but because of the aspect ratio, it'll be narrower but a bit longer than a 2.8" .  Have you compared the iPhone's screen with the O2 Flame?  Both screens have similar lengths but the O2's screen is wider.

If you are going to switch to the Samsung you are giving up both resolution and screen size, two big reasons I'm sure many people here used to justify their Flame purchase.  I can't see the Samsung being the Flame's successor for those two reasons.

Re: Xda Flame successor

well if you like the ratio the screen size is the same wink
but I agree, I'd have already begin to put some coins apart if it had a vga display..

Re: Xda Flame successor

16GB internal memory and SDHC. Now we are talking! But saving a few pennies on screen resolution, how silly.

This is really the really successor for O2 Flame. Give up the stupid nvidia chip and MEGA POWER HUNGRY 2GB ROM. The only i really hate giving up is the USB to go :-(

In the end give me a GIANT (Sony) support, WVGA, 3MP Camera, Keyboard, GPS and still a 400MB ROM.

Most amazing thing i realize is it used microSD and not the stupid Sony M2 card.

display is 3", that is enough reason to say that this SE device is not the flame successor.

Re: Xda Flame successor

Possibly here you have a real XDA Flame successor :-)

http://www.windowsfordevices.com/news/NS5598583618.html

But it seems you have to go to Iraq to get it.

And I have to say it is a bit bulky for my pocket.

Re: Xda Flame successor

I have not found my Flame successor, but I have found my Flame companion : EEEPC 900.
Perhaps one day, I will just have a small tel with the 900.
