ROM Update Utility for Flame

Thanks to our friend 'amirmw' we got our hands on ROM update utility for Flame big_smile .
It's a DSUU that You all know from other PDAs.

Here is a link to a DSUU with WM5 ROM and base extROM.

You only need to place a diskimage.nb0 inside DSUU folder and execute Dsuu.exe.

In a Cabversion.txt there should be a version of Your extended ROM.

In Meimeilist.txt there should be files that You want to install in Your extROM.
These files should also be inside DSUU folder.

After finishing first stage, after clicking 'Finish', DO NOT UNPLUG Your USB cable - wait until Flame switches into bootloader.

It needs an eboot.nb0 file to run properly.

Benefits of using DSUU:

* first stage is made in PC's RAM which is much faster than that of PDA's.
* no risk of battery going flat during flashing process
* no need of having SD card (or formatting them)
* no need of having .kez file
* available for all Flame users no matter which model they have
* is a bit faster (yet need to make more tests)

Re: ROM Update Utility for Flame

You're welcome guys ...
i would be glad to do something for improving all secrets of FLAME ...

i have called MWG technical support several times but i don't know why they don't answer the phone ...
this is their phone number in Singapore : + 65 64119966 and they work from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

if it is possible for you call them and ask them what was happened to WM6 or Better WM5 ROM for O2 xda Flame ... or something like that
the phone is more affective than email and show them your irritation about their inactivity
Regards

Re: ROM Update Utility for Flame

This the Chinese New Year.
Perhaps they are closed for the week.
Try to phone them next week.

Thanks to your trick to get the RUU.
Try again to get the gsm upgrade.
Perhaps they are more service oriented in Dubai.

Re: ROM Update Utility for Flame

Just wanted to let you guys know, have tried the above RUU and got the message "Cannot create source file" then followed by "have no file" before the program terminated. I have risked adding the eboot.nb0 which also had the same result.

Since my unit is a prototype, I cannot say that the results will be the same with regular retail units.

Uhmm. You can try original RUU at: http://search3.idrive.com/driveway/jsp/ … e0o5u6b5h5

It contains all necesarry components, which I may have deleted (tried to keep only important ones).

However, I'll try this issue and update this link asap.

Thanks for info smile .

Re: ROM Update Utility for Flame

Well, after some research I have discovered that there is one more file called: '2007032801.dbd'.
It seems to contain the names of ROM and extROM elements + something more at the end.

Yet, it's written in a strange format, and I'm still looking for a way to clearly edit this file.

An error of "Cannot create source file" ocurs due to lack of sth (diassembling shows a division by zero error)
that should be in a RUU folder, and is written in .dbd file.

I'd appreciate some help on this smile .

How is it looks like? how to write the text format?

If i dont want to update the ext-rom, can i just put the diskimage and eboot inside? does it erase all my previous ext-rom in the flame if i dont put any ext-rom file inside folder for updating? I just want to update my rom version... not the ext. rom.... is it possible? thanks!!

Re: ROM Update Utility for Flame

Hey guys, continue to use the old method to upgrade your Flame's Rom. It will be more secured because you do not change at the same time other parts: the eboot.nb0 and the extended rom.

Re: ROM Update Utility for Flame

Just for added information which might help.

In my experience with the installer wizard from amirmw' is that whenever it extracts during the installation. It has an unpredicatable extraction meaning sometimes it does not extract the files correctly to the temporary folder have experienced that it has extracted the diskimage.nb0 at only 6MB, sometimes it's 20MB and 64MB.

Another experience is that with the installer all my attempts to flash the diskimage always fail.

I have contacted an O2 repair representative office here in my country and they told me that different country has different codings (within the unit) and different installer programs which limits each service representative from repairing units bought from another country. I am not very sure from what country my unit originated from what I only know is that whenever I connect the unit for the first time to any USB port, the unit name detected is "unknown portable devise (prototype)"

Since this RUU is from this installer I am speculating that it could be from one of these reasons why it does not run on the unit I'm using.

However, I have already tried using devictoria's flashing method (but for my unit instead of pressing both the "---" buttons under the screen, I have to use the "call" and the "end call" buttons) is with this installer's diskimage.nb0 file and the update works.

I have also tried updating the ROM by using devictoria's diskimage.nb0 (still using devictoria's flashing method, the RUU and the installer still does not work at this point for me) while retaining amirmw's extrom files the flash went well but there are some icons in the settings went missing. My guess is that the files in the extrom are not compatible with the new diskimage.nb0. Haven't tested it further than that, have reflashed amirmw's diskimage.nb0 back to my unit for now.

Hey Jaslyn. You can find filled text formats here: http://search3.idrive.com/driveway/jsp/ … e0o5u6b5h5

I've discovered that RUU always ereases Your extROM at the very first stage of upgrade. You can always try to delete another .exe file which does this but then RUU may not work properly or at all.

If You don't put any extROM it will erease Your current extROM hmm .
But we're still working at this rom upgrade solution.

Re: ROM Update Utility for Flame

@malloth

you mentioned that the ext rom files need to be in the folder and in meimeilist.txt.

What about the subdirectories and files inside subdirectories of the ext rom?

If I do not do this, does that mean that my ext rom will be cleaned up in the progress or it will stay intact?

Say if it is cleaned up, can I still copy the backup copy back into the ext rom and it will be there even after hard reset?

What is "diskimage.nb0, format_vol2.exe, CabVersion.Txt," in meimeilist.txt for?

In Updatesource.txt, what is,

Re: ROM Update Utility for Flame

@cwkj

The standard problem with this RUU is that it always clear extROM before writing a new one (format_vol2.exe does this).
I've tried deleting that file but RUU won't start without it.

In CabVersion.Txt there's only a cab version which RUU uses to write into registry of a device after flashing.

In meimeilist.txt there are all files You want to flash into device + the path to them (this path and folders will be created in extROM - ex. _preinstall.XML,klldsnhdmdhalkxk\\Network\\)

In cablist.txt there are only cabs which will be installed during extROM first OS inicialization after hard reset.

As for Updatesource.txt I can only suspect that it's somehow connected with 2007032801.dbd file where are all files needed to flash (diskimage + extROM files + eboot + other files).
But I have no idea how to change this standard extROM located in RUU folder.
