we have been expecting the increase for some time as the Malaysian Government subsidises petrol so much here and spends a huge amout of it income this way.  As for me, not so bad - i drive a small (1000cc) local brand car Perodua Viva.  It is only a few months old and the model is also quite new so the fuel efficiency is good from the Japanese designed engine.  I do drive to work and there I have options - use the federal Highway and usually get stuck in the jam or pay the toll and get stuck in a smaller jam LOL.  I usually choose the later as it affords me a few extra minutes in bed! Even with the price rise it is still comparitively cheap.  A 'real' price would be in the region of RM4.00 per litre!

On a more serious note, I think that this hike in petral prices will esscalate inflation generally and it will be an excuse for ALL prices to go up, and my pay - I work as a Head of Department/lecturer at Methodist College - is not indexted linked and while not bad by local standards it is not enormous.  Still generally i can't complain. Malaysia has been good to me, I am originally from UK, and my quality of life here suits me well.  I can afford to do things that would be out of the question in UK if I held a similar career position.

here in southern california it's up to $4.29 for 87 octane and as high as $4.89 for 91 octane. hell diesel is up over $5.00 a gallon. it's killing me.

In Australia its about AUD$1.40 which is about $1.30US?

Jaslin, you made mistake in your first, concerning the US. The price are for gallon, and not liter.
In France, the price for the gasoline is at 1.46 €/l and the dieasel at 1.40 €/l
But you can easily find it at +0,20 €/l, depending of the station.

In Canada (Vancouver) it is $1.41 today.  This is about the same in U.S. dollars.

Price is in liters.

I think, apart form US, the unit used in any station are in litre......

1.00 CAD   =   0.960320 USD

That would be 1.34 USD.... is it?

that has nothing to do with gas prices, unless your selling to afford gas.

if 1US$ = Rp 10.000
pertamax petrol Rp9.000 = 0,9 US$
petrol Rp6.000 = 0,6 US$
diesel Rp5.400 = 0,54 US$

What about CNG?

It's about SGD1.70.

0.065 KD/Litre In Kuwait (1.000KD = 4.3$) (oct 96)
1.80 Egyption Pounds/Litre In Egypt (1$ = 5.5EP) (oct 92)
0.400 JD/Litre In Jordan (1JD = about 1.8$) (oct 90 i guess)
